The Revolution Will Not Erase Us: Archiving our Lives Through Poetry as Memoir

American history has shown us that our ancestors and elders have explicitly asked us through multiple mediums to maintain their words, pictures, memories, lessons and artifacts—to be conduits of the past and hold their archives with care. In 2025 some of us find ourselves feeling as though a huge eraser looms over our own words, pictures, memories, lessons, explorations of identity and revolutions. In this workshop we will positively affirm ourselves, celebrate each other and examine what our current artifacts might be. What should we be archiving? What seven poetic structures and devices can provide the alphabet support we need to hold on to our memories to create memoir poetry? And lastly how can we write poetically about our internal and communal revolution(s)? Each workshop will begin with three generative writing prompts, includes a main poetry or prose lesson as well as intentional large and small cohort discussions. The goal for all workshop participants is to feel a part of a joyfully-safe and writerly-community, complete the course with at least three polished drafts of poetry or prose, to experience two workshops with an opportunity to give and receive feedback from fellow cohorts and to confidently share what you’ve written and prepare to submit it to literary journals or begin to put together a manuscript.
